The pair first met at the same arena on December 20, 2025, when Simpson walked in unbeaten at 18-0 and holding all three of the British, Commonwealth and European belts. He was ahead on the night before Williamson, the 34-year-old Darlington man, turned it on its head, flooring the Barnsley fighter four times in the tenth round to force the stoppage.

It was the first defeat of Simpson’s career, and it cost him everything. Now he has triggered his rematch clause to try and take it all back in Yorkshire.

This time, only two of those belts are up for grabs. Because EBU rules do not allow direct rematches for their title, Williamson vacated the European belt, leaving only the British and Commonwealth titles on the line. There is a bigger picture for Williamson too. He was next in line for IBF and IBO champion Osleys Iglesias before the rematch clause froze his world-title plans, and as of May 2026 the IBF still rank him at No.4 at super-middleweight.

Williamson defends his British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles against Simpson on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds.

Williamson vs Simpson 2 full fight card

The full undercard has not been confirmed yet, since the rematch was only announced this week at a press conference in Manchester.

BOXXER tend to build a deep regional bill around a Leeds or Yorkshire headliner, so expect a strong supporting card with local prospects featured once the matchmaking is finalised.

This section will be updated once BOXXER confirms the supporting card.

That marks a change from the first fight, which went out free-to-air on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer, so this time you will need a DAZN subscription to watch. Our prediction

“I’ve beaten you once, and on August 8, I will beat you again,” Williamson said when the fight was confirmed. Writing on Facebook, he added that it is “personal this time”, and he has not hidden his frustration at being kept inactive throughout 2026 while the rematch was arranged. Simpson, for his part, says he cannot wait, promising that Leeds will be bouncing.

Split Decision leans Williamson to repeat the job late, by stoppage somewhere in rounds 10 to 12 or on a hard-earned decision. That said, this is no formality. Simpson is the bigger, younger man with a partisan crowd behind him, and if he boxes with discipline and gets through the middle rounds intact, a points win for the Barnsley man is very much live.

Williamson vs Simpson 2 odds

Odds have not been posted yet, since the rematch was only confirmed this week. Expect a far tighter market than the first fight.
