Ben Whittaker Stops Liam Cameron in Round 2

Ben Whittaker stopped Liam Cameron in the second round by TKO in a rematch that was always going to be heated. But was it a clean call – or another questionable moment from referee Howard Foster, whose name often pops up when big-fight controversy strikes – most notably the Carl Froch v George Groves fight?

Let’s be honest: wherever Whittaker goes, drama tends to follow. His flash, showboating, and the chaos of the first bout (which ended in a double fall from the ring and a technical draw) set the stage for this rematch. And while he delivered a decisive performance this time around, many are questioning the stoppage – and even more are talking about what happened after the bell.

Whittaker v Cameron 2: The Overview

Now training under Andy Lee, Whittaker looked sharper and more composed – showing what an experienced trainer can do. He controlled the opening round and came out in the second with real intent. A big right hand staggered Cameron, and a follow-up barrage forced referee Howard Foster to step in at 1:53.

Cameron’s team protested immediately, and fans were split. Was Cameron truly in trouble – or just weathering the storm? He was covering up, but not firing back, and while he didn’t hit the canvas, his legs looked shaky to some.

Was It Going to End Anyway?

Once the dust settled, the bigger question surfaced: would Cameron have made it much further anyway?

Realistically, most would agree Whittaker had him figured out. He was landing the cleaner shots, controlling the distance, and showed a level of discipline we hadn’t always seen from him. If it didn’t end in the second, it’s fair to say the finish was coming within the first half of the fight.

Post-Fight Fire: Spitgate

As if the stoppage debate wasn’t enough, Whittaker sprinted across the ring post-fight and appeared to spit towards Cameron’s trainer, Grant Smith. Footage and fan opinions are divided – some say it was intentional. Either way, it added fuel to an already fiery rivalry.

Whittaker’s Words

“What happened in Saudi needed to happen. It made me work harder,” said Whittaker after the fight. “I’m still swaggy and flashy, but very disciplined in there… you saw the real Ben Whittaker.”
