Did Caleb Plant win? No – Armando Resendiz scored a split-decision upset over Plant with official cards of 116-112, 113-115, 116-112.
Caleb Plant vs Armando Resendiz – How the upset unfolded
Armando Resendiz walked to the ring an 8-1 betting outsider yet boxed with the spirit of a seasoned champion. Plant, known for silky footwork, aimed to bank early rounds behind his jab. Resendiz, however, closed distance, investing to the body and crowding Plant’s rhythm.
By the championship rounds the Mexican’s pressure showed. Plant, cut over the right eye in round nine, spent long spells on the ropes while Resendiz punched in clusters. Ringside observers sensed a momentum swing mirrored on the judges cards. With only one judge thinking Plant did enough to retain his belt.
The split-decision sealed a career-best triumph for Resendiz and the second consecutive defeat for Plant, whose record slips to 23-3 (14 KO).
With Caleb Plant seeming to be failing in the later rounds, his stamina has to be questioned, something years ago you wouldn’t have mentioned for a fighter like Plant. However he has had a long spell out of the ring, after suffering a loss to Benavidez in March 2023, he has fought once in 2024 and this been his only fight in 2025.
Plants promotion company PBC, have been accused of this before, with only signing the big money making fights and not letting their fights keep their fitness levels up with easier fights. One reddit user saying this “Man pbc is notorious for having their fighters sit on the side line too long. Plant and tank are just two examples, and they’re both top fighters.”
